Gospel

Matthew 28:8-15

Filled with awe and great joy the women came away from the tomb, and ran to tell
the disciples. And suddenly Jesus met them and said, “Hail!” They came up to him and, falling down
before him, caught hold of his feet. Then Jesus said to them, “Do not be afraid. Go and tell my
brothers to go to Galilee, and there they will see me.” While they were on their way, some of the
guard went into the city and told the chief priests all that had happened. The chief priests assembled
with the elders and took counsel; then they gave a large sum of money to the soldiers, telling them,
“You are to say, ‘His disciples came by night and stole him while we were asleep.’ And if this gets
to the ears of the governor, we will satisfy him and keep you out of trouble.” The soldiers took the
money and did as they were instructed. And this story has circulated among the Jews to the present
            day.

Early lectionaries were often organized according to the\n liturgical year and the feasts of saints. The modern Lectionary, as revised after the Second Vatican\n Council, aims to provide a more comprehensive and systematic presentation of Scripture at Mass.
\n
The current Lectionary uses a three-year cycle for Sundays (Years A, B, and C), with each year focusing on\n one of the Synoptic Gospels (Matthew, Mark, and Luke). The Gospel of John is read during the Easter season\n and at other special times. Weekday readings follow a two-year cycle (Year I and Year II).
\n
\n\n \n
\n
Format and Layout of the Lectionary
\n \n
The Lectionary is typically organized into sections based on the liturgical season (Advent, Christmas, Lent,\n Easter, Ordinary Time) and the day of the week. For each Sunday and major feast day, the Lectionary\n provides three readings: one from the Old Testament (or Acts of the Apostles during Eastertide), one from\n the New Testament Letters, and one from the Gospels. A Responsorial Psalm is also included between the\n first and second readings.
\n
The readings are carefully selected to complement each other and to reflect the themes of the liturgical\n season.
